As part of this summers Art in the Park program, the Crafty Ol Bats will be running weekly workshops and Summer Camps:

The weekly Arts and Crafts workshops start Friday June 7th, 6 pm – 7.15 pm. €10 , including materials.

Aimed at children aged 4 – 12 years old.

Drop you kids off and enjoy the summer in the park! Children will be encouraged to explore their creative sides, respond to the surroundings of the park and create their very own masterpieces to take home!


Summer Camps with Crafty Ol Bats at Art in the Park - Cork:

ART IN NATURE/SUMMER FUN
1 week camp: July 1st – 5th Monday to Friday 10 am – 1 pm
Suitable for children aged 5 to 9 years old

This fun filled summer camp focuses on imagination, colour, creativity, summer and the park. Children will immerse themselves in nature, play games, explore some basic yoga postures to help focus and relax, work outdoors, and enjoy the process of making art inspired by nature. Projects will include large scale landscapes, collaborative work and outdoor sculpture, which will be exhibited in the area surrounding the pavilion.

RECYCLED ART!
1 week camp July 15th – 19th Monday – Friday 10 am -1pm
Suitable for children aged 7 to 12 years old.

This is your chance to make something of all that junk you’ve been storing up! This camp focuses on the imagination, developing children’s creativity and exploring form and sculpture as well as painting and drawing. Projects will include puppet making, mobile making, mosaic, collage and outdoor sculpture. Children will collaborate on some projects as well as doing their own. Artwork will be exhibited in the pavilion and in the area surrounding it. All will be made out of recycled materials.

SATURDAY JUNE 22nd REGISTRATION FOR SUMMER CAMPS 12 - 1 pm. €100 for week.

Elaine and Valerie have been running children’s arts & crafts workshops in Cork since 2009.

Elaine is an Artist working mainly in the area of Painting. She teaches art to both children and adults. Valerie has a background in costume work in film, theatre and street theatre. She is also a mother to her beautiful three and a half year old daughter Eva who has boundless energy, ideas and is a great source of inspiration to her.

ANIME Productions presents Animation courses for Teens:

Join us in Fitzgerald's Park to kick off a creative Summer!
All courses cover a variety of animation techniques using a home-friendly set up.

Week 1 (June 4th to 6th) 
Basic Principles of Animation. Make your drawings flow: flipbooks; walk cycle; bouncing ball.

Week 2 (June 11th to 13th)
Make a fake Advert! Short, punchy, to the point!A great way to get a message across in a compact form.

Music Video- explore experimental techniques.

Indy Movie with Pixilation techniques.

Art of Stitch 3 - Explorations in Free-Machine Embroidery with Arlene Shawcross

A series of workshops with textile artist and Art in the Park resident Arlene Shawcross. These workshops will look at the exciting creative technique of Free-Machine Embroidery using the beautiful surroundings of the park as inspiration.

Tuesdays 10 a.m. - 12.30 p.m.

Dates : April 16th, April 23rd, April 30th, May 7th and May 14th

Cost: € 125 for the series of workshops or €28 for individual workshops.

Draw & Sketch with Monica Jones

Commencing on Friday afternoon the 12th of April at 1.30 to 3.00
No experience required .

Learn to draw from observation with Monica Jones
Enjoy the experience of different drawing materials and working on a variety of surfaces.
The subject matter will vary from class to class and weather premitting we will sketch outdoors .
Connect with the park environmently and creativly ...

The classes will run over the next six weeks. The fee is 120 euros or 22 euro for pay as you go. All materials provided.

Patricia Gurgel-Segrillo is a member of CRAFTed: Crafts Council of Ireland's Education Panel which aims for the development and delivery of training programmes relating to the Visual Arts curriculum at primary level.

Portfolio Classes with Laura Healy

An intensive course aimed at those wishing to apply for all Art and Design related courses.

This course provides advice and guidance to those interested in developing a portfolio to very high standard. It is tailored to suit the needs of each individual and is structured to foster independent thinking, promoting both practical and conceptual approaches to creativity through a range of problem solving tasks. The course is facilitated by practicing artist and qualified secondary school teacher Laura Healy.

Subjects taught: Observational Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, 3D studies, Combined Materials and Design.

*Suitable for both secondary school pupils and mature students*

A 7 week course starting Weds 13th February. Time: 2pm - 3:30pm

Price: €99 (basic materials provided)

Material pack available at an additional cost of €20 ( includes pencils (3B and 6B), acrylic paint set, paint brush set and soft cover sketchbook).

Drawing from Nature with Gillian Cussen

With Spring upon us it is a chance to draw outside "en plein air" and observe nature at first hand. We are in a unique position being situated in Fitzgerald s Park with the beauty and variety of vegetation and animal life all around us.

The aim of this 8 week drawing course will be to try and capture in a dry medium, i.e. charcoal, pencil, pastel, oil bar, etc., some of the images and vistas in the Park that you find interesting. Weather permitting, we will spend approximately 20 minutes outside at each class gathering visual information and then return to the Lord Mayors Pavilion to work on the drawings.


Date- Thursday 10.30am to 12 noon for 8 weeks from Thurs. 14th February 2013 to Thurs. 11th April 2013.

REGISTRATION: Thursday 7th February 2013 from 10.30am to 11.30am. Cost €96. Participants to bring own materials- paper for warm up drawings, charcoal, eraser and chalk and/or oil pastels. Maximum of 8 participants to ensure personal attention.

Painting with Monica Jones

Learn to capture the splendid variation of light & colour through paint and mixed media.
This 6-week course will be with the Artist Monica Jones. Monica’s style of teaching aims to help students express an individual style.


The Painting classes will have solid technical information on the elements of composition and perspective. There will be a strong emphasis on colour mixing, tonal values, and how they relate to the natural environment of Fitzgerald’s Park.


Fitzgerald’s Park is an oasis away from the hustle and bustle of City Life. As part of my teaching Monica will include references from Art History e.g. the impressionists and expressionists. The classes will be held in the Lord Mayors Pavilion and weather permitting, we will take the opportunity to work from observation in the park.

Fridays 10:30am - 12pm or 1pm - 2:30pm 
starting Friday Feb 15th.

120 euros (105 euros for seniors and students) inclusive of materials.

Art 4 Kidz with Laura Healy
 
Fun and exciting art classes geared towards kids age 5-12 years with an interest in Art. These classes are facilitated by practicing artist and qualified art teacher Laura Healy. Activities include: Drawing, painting, printing, ceramics and animation.


A 6-week course starting Saturday 16th of February. Time: 10.15am - 11.30am

Picture Book Illustration Course with Alan Corbett

A new 2013 edition of Art in the Park artist resident and ICNA winning creator Alan Corbett’s 10 week picture book illustration course will be starting up this coming February. The course covers everything from writing, to illustration, graphic design and publishing.

Alan Corbett 
graduated with an MA in Children’s Book Illustration from the Cambridge School of Art in the UK in 2010. The MA was an 18 month course that concluded with a group exhibition at the prestigious Illustration Cupboard Gallery in London. Previous to this Alan completed a BA in Graphic Design at the Cork IT. Alan's first children’s book/graphic novel, Ghost of Shandon, was very well received and he is at the moment working on Ghost of Shandon 2.

Cork Heritage Oil painting with Roberto Garcia

This 6-week course given by Artist and qualified Art teacher Roberto Garcia is aimed to beginners or intermediate oil painters and is offered in two separate days.

Located in the unique setting of Lord Mayor Pavilion in Fitzgerald Park in Cork city, this course will be inspired by the beautiful heritage and cultural patrimony of Cork.
Students will learn / improve their oil painting skills while working from their own photographs of their chosen subject - a favorite Cork landmark while learning about Cork's heritage.

If you are a 5th or 6th year student doing Art at school the drawing course this term at Art in the Park in Fitzgerald’s Park may interest you. In the course you would be exploring mark making, doing a range of exercises to improve observation and drawing skills,experiencing different drawing techniques and throughout the course regular references to relevant artists and art history will be made.The work undertaken in the course should improve the overall quality of your drawing and would especially support those of you interested in portfolio preparation for entry to third level art courses.The course consists of 10 classes and takes place on Wednesdays from 2.30pm - 4pmand runs from Sept. 19th to Nov.28th inclusive (excluding Oct 31st). The cost is €100 and is payable on registration day on Wednesday Sept.12th from 2.30pm-4pm. Places are limited to eight and will be allocated on a 'first come first served' basis. Participants are to bring paper, charcoal and drawing pencils to the classes.








Morning Class

Want to learn to draw? Here is an opportunity to begin to learn the skills of drawing in a relaxed and inspiring environment. Each Thursday morning, 10.30am -12pm, for ten weeks from Sept 20th through to Nov 29th, the class will be held by Gillian Cussen, artist and qualified art teacher.

The cost is €120 and is payable on registration day on Thursday Sept.13th from 10.30am-12pm at Art in the Park.

Face painting for children every Friday afternoon and Saturday morning at Art in the Park,  with illustrator Alan Corbett. Get your face painted like Captain America, Spider-man, Dracula or a Zombie! Face painting 4 Euro per child. From 2 to 5pm on Fridays and from 11am to 1pm on Saturday mornings.





Explore the Scenery in Fitzgerald Park 

Develop new skills in drawing in the Lord Mayor's Pavilion by exploring the beautiful scenery in the Park which is viewable from this unique venue. An inspiration for landscape and botanical studies, some classes may be possible outside, 'en plein air', weather permitting! For adults of all ages and abilities. 11am -12.30pm on Tuesdays July 10th to August 28th. €8 per session or €48 for 8 week course.
